Every day, European governments support fossil fuels with more than one billion euros. Over 1 000 000 000 euros, every single day.¹
Meanwhile, the effects of the climate crisis are increasingly tangible, also here in Europe. Fires, floods and heatwaves have become the norm – yet political leaders keep adding fuel to the fire.
This needs to stop.
The European Parliament has called to end fossil subsidies by 2025. There is, however, no clear phase-out plan or deadline for most fossil fuel subsidies. Far from decreasing, these subsidies have risen in recent years.
Urgent action is needed. That’s why we call upon the European Union to:
Introduce legislation to end fossil subsidies in the EU
Channel these billions into renewable energy, public transportation and green jobs
Join us in demanding a greener future. Let's #StopFossilSubsidies together!
¹ According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), EU governments spent over 400,000,000,000 € (400 billion) on fossil fuel subsidies in 2022 [www.imf.org/en/Publications/WP/Issues/2023/08/22/IMF-Fossil-Fuel-Subsidies-Data-2023-Update-537281]
