No to "veggie burger ban"!

European Parliament could soon outlaw commonly understood food names such as "veggie burgers" and “soy milk”.

The pressure comes from meat and dairy industry lobbyists who wish to gain an unfair advantage by claiming exclusive ownership over widely used names for foods.

The proposal, put forward by Conservative MEPs, is even more telling in the light of European Commission’s Farm to Fork strategy, which states that eating less meat reduces the risk of life-threatening diseases and is beneficial for the climate, emphasising the importance of empowering consumers to make healthier choices when it comes to food. Adopting these demands will certainly do the opposite and create confusion rather than informed choices.

We call on the European Parliament to not give in to the powerful meat and dairy lobby and reject amendments 165 and 171 to the AGRI Committee’s CMO report.
